Who do you love? Will you be sending flowers this February 14th?

Believe it or not the first recorded Valentines Day linked with love and courtship was in 1382 by Chaucer in a poem. But it wasn't until the early 1800's that it gathered popularity with the Victorians and by 1840 over 400,000 cards were sent, mostly anonymously we are led to believe.

Cadburys created a special chocolate gift box for Valentines back in 1868 and this soon gathered popularity with millions of boxes all over the world now given as gifts. Cadburys may have lost the monopoly on that gift now though.

But more importantly FLOWERS!!! People now send a variety of flowers for Valentines Day but still the most popular by far is the red rose, legend has it that it was thought to have been created by Aphrodite's tears and the blood of her lover Adonis and has been used to symbolise love ever since. Today millions of roses are sent by the dozen in many many countries, we still haven't converted to decimal on this tradition. It is thought to symbolise one for every month of the year to show that the love will continue through the whole of the 12 months. Sending two dozen is a slightly grander gesture and shows you are thinking of them 24 hours a day.

So whether you want to send a single flower or a grand bouquet each message is the same 'I Love You!'
